Taking The Plunge

The Minnesota chapter of the Special Olympics’ Polar Plunge was in desperate need of a website overhaul. The site was outdated and server downtime was causing frustration for user and client alike.

When Creed was chosen to design and build the future digital home of Minnesota’s Polar Plunge, there were three functional requirements – make it easier for people to get involved and participate, make it easier to fundraise, and make it fun and shareable. Challenge accepted!

Special Olympics of Minnesota - Polar Plunge

Working closely with the Special Olympics team, we were able to define the feature set for the new site and choose the best platform for the job. The technology and platform chosen was also based on the level of security and guaranteed site up time, which we knew to be crucial for the new site’s success.

Our strategy, chosen technology and design came together to create a fully responsive, intuitive consumer experience with a powerful and easy-to-use back end.

Due to the complexity of the system we were building, and to ensure the hand-off to the Special Olympics team went smoothly, we established and maintained a highly collaborative relationship with Special Olympics throughout the entire project.

What Did We Learn?

The things we build are complicated, and we are the first to admit we're not perfect. We believe that projects should not be defined by their challenges but by how we collectively problem-solve to overcome them.

  1. Building Lean

Creative working closely with dev to establish and maintain rules around responsive design not only streamlines the site design and build process, but it also helps to create a super lean and fast-loading experience!

  2. Code + Cause = Impact

Software has the power to do great good in this world. I am so proud to be a part of this project and the great impact it has made. It was a great challenge to create so many custom interfaces and options that work well in mobile and desktop. I learned that when you bring personal passion into a project like this, you can make a much bigger impact than you anticipate.
